Surf Levels Explained
In and around Taghazout we have a multi aspect coastline, which provides a range of different surf spots that work for any given tide or swell – we have waves for all surfing abilities.
To ensure you get to surf waves suited to your ability we implement a surf levels system. This helps us pair you with a surf group seeking the same type of waves. We’re able to cater from pro surfers to complete beginners.
Our team of professional surf coaches and system of levels sets us apart from other surf camps in Morocco.
Level 1
Our Level 1coaching program teaches you the basics of surfing. You’ll start on the beach before moving into waist-deep water, where you’ll learn how to handle your surfboard, safety rules, how to read waves, how to paddle and catch broken waves from lying on your board. You’ll be standing up surfing in no time!
Level 2
Our level 2 is for surfers who know the basics and are still practicing getting up in the foam. The goal will be to develop your confidence in the waves in order to perfect your stability on the board and thus increase the number of waves you catch. The key points will be paddling and catching the waves without help from the instructor, giving your board the right speed and especially practicing your pop-up.
Level 3
You paddle to the line-up, practicing standing up and turning. For level 3 groups, the focus will be on finding clean, gentle waves to help you progress. You will only surf beach breaks.
You will learn all the techniques to paddle to the line-up easily, be in control of your board, perfect your pop-up and how to best place your weight on the board. You will also learn how to select your waves, catch them and surf them.
Level 4
You’re confident paddling out and catching waves up to head high. If conditions allow, our guides will take you to sandy-bottom point and reef breaks—perfect for clean, mellow rides that aren’t too powerful.
If you’re on the Surf Coaching package, these sessions are ideal for refining your technique, breaking bad habits, and catching more waves. It’s also great for surfers returning after time away who want a refresher to get the most out of their stay.
Level 5
At Level 5 you’re confident surfing small to medium-sized reef, point, and beach breaks. If you’re on Surf Guiding, you’ll be taken to a variety of local spots—nothing too big or intimidating, but still offering quality, uncrowded waves. Each day, our experienced guides assess the conditions to get you to the best surf available.
For those on Surf Coaching, the focus is on progressing your technique with skills like duck diving, bottom turns, off-the-tops, and cutbacks. These sessions are designed to really push your surfing to the next level.
Level 6
You’re an advanced surfer and competent in all conditions. Each day your guide will search for the best waves the area has to offer. Expect very long powerful point breaks, A-frame reefs and hollow beach breaks. Our guides are complety focused on finding the best possible conditions on the day regardless of distances needed to travel to find them.
